The Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency has successfully completed a project funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism with support from the fund of the Kingdom of Norway, the Principality of Liechtenstein, and Iceland.
The Hydrocarbon Agency has executed a project to create a database for deep geothermal energy titled “CREATING THE GEOTHERMAL POTENTIAL INTERACTIVE MAP OF THE PANNONIAN BASIN IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA” funded by grants provided under the “Energy and Climate Change” program within the European Economic Area financial mechanism, with support from the fund of the Kingdom of Norway, the Principality of Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

The Agency has developed a unique, interactive, and public platform displaying all exploration areas and exploitation fields of geothermal water for energy purposes, along with relevant borehole data and a geothermal gradient map.

As stated by Mr. Marijan Krpan, CEO of the Hydrocarbon Agency, during the presentation of the map at the Hotel International, the interactive map will transparently allow all interested parties to access the geothermal potential of the Pannonian Basin in Croatia, from the border with Slovenia to Vukovar, thus encouraging the creation of development and investment opportunities.

The final presentation was attended by His Excellency Arne Sannes Bjørnstad, Ambassador of Norway to the Republic of Croatia, representatives from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, and the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction, and State Assets. Experts from the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar, whose support was particularly significant in the implementation of this project, were also present. Guests from the Croatian Geological Institute, the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering, the Geological Survey of Slovenia, Croatian Waters, and INA also congratulated their colleagues on the successful completion of the project.

The geothermal potential map and online services are available to the public as of Tuesday, April 30, 2024:
