Exploration and production of hydrocarbons is one of the main infrastructural energy activities, and one of a few activities crucial for the economic development of countries, which have commercially viable natural resources available for production. Croatia has a rich hydrocarbon exploration and production legacy, and historically this sector was one of the main drivers of economic growth as well as societal development.
With the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union and opening of the market, bearing in mind that domestic hydrocarbon production has had a negative trend for many years, the Government of the Republic of Croatia decided to open the doors to potential, new investors.
The first step in this direction was the establishment of Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency, according to the best practices in EU member states and other countries.
